The Footbridge

Our past is filled
With great stories.

Some are folktales,
Others accepted doctrine.

They offer a footbridge
Across the great chasm

That separates the past
From the present.

Believers and historians
Traverse the bridge daily.

Others stand at the chasm
And ask themselves:

Is the footbridge real,
Or imagined?

  1. Cody, “The Footbridge”, a fantastic poem, evokes a lot of thought at least for me, as you see my brain is wired quirky, (please know that I’m not suggesting that you’re quirky, just me), so I love these great lines,

    “Is the footbridge real,
    Or imagined?”

I’m not a writer, but you are. So, tell me what do you think, can we bring what we have imagined into our reality, thus bringing it to life? I have my own spin on this, but quite curious about your thoughts.

    As always take care,
    Pepper

P.S. I truly adore anything that makes me think, so I must thank you!

    • I have no problem being called quirky, or anything else for that matter. Just about everything that I have ever been called (good or bad) has some truth to it… Personally, I like quirkiness. Ok, now let’s get to the point. Is the footbridge real, or Imagined? My answer: both. Reality, at least as we perceive it, depends entirely on our own interpretation. True reality exists beyond a barrier that we cannot cross. The only way to reach true reality is by crossing the footbridge in our imagination. Even then, we’ll never know what is real and what is imagined. I suppose the same could be said about every day life. In the end, the only way to find truth is to let go of ourselves and blindly step onto the footbridge. I hope that answers your question. Thank you for the comment.
