Falling Leaves

All things fade in time.
Like leaves falling from a great tree,
Our memories fade away too.
Each year being replenished,
Like new leaves budding on the great tree.
Old memories, no longer needed,
Wither away like last year’s leaves.
Even the great tree will fade one day,
And so does our mind.
As the tree begins to fade away,
I imagine, it can’t help
But be nostalgic
For the leaves of long ago.

  1. Yes, wish some memories would disappear. No such luck it seems. But have you ever looked at a really big tree and stop and wonder how much life it has seen? Always think along the lines of events not memories. Which i suppose are kind of the same? now i am going to look at a tree and think about it’s memories!! Great poem. ;). I love writing which makes me think.

    • Thank you for your kind words. Living in Oregon, I am surrounded by trees, which I imagine is where I got the inspiration for this poem.

Yves Montand]

Stunning poem!… I love the poetic imaginary and the way those leaves might be linked to Past Itself!… Best wishes. Aquileana 😀

    • Thank you for sharing the Yves Montand excerpt. I looked him up and listened to him sing “Les feuilles mortes”. It is a great piece. I am grateful that you turned me on to him, and that you like this poem.
