The cool morning air,
Awakens my consciousness.
Its gentle breath,
Reminds me of life.
As the sun slowly fills the sky,
My sluggish spirit lifts.
Drowsily my eyes open,
Seeing the pale blue sky.
The stars that laid me to rest,
Have gone back into hiding.
Like an unending alarm clock,
Songbirds beckon me to arise.
A new day has begun,
And it wants to play.
My body tries to join,
But it is still deep in slumber.
I leave it behind to float away,
Along the hidden path.

Thank you for this lovely poem.
You are very welcome. This may very well be my favorite poem that I have ever written. It’s a close call, though, as there are two coming up that are on the same level. I’ve been looking forward to publishing this poem for a long time. I’m glad the day has finally arrived.
Ahhh, this makes me feel very happy. Very relaxed and happy. I love this.
I’m glad you like this one. It is written in more of a relaxing style than many of my other poems. I think it comes across very well.
Thank you for your nice comment.
Reminds me of that lovely, relaxed feeling you get when first waking up on a Sunday morning…knowing you don’t have to get up just yet, but can drift in the space between sleep and awake.
Very much so. I love those mornings.
Wonderful Cody. You’ve captured beautifully what I sometimes feel in the morning, moments where the beauty of the day beckons as well as the hidden path of sleep. Just an outstanding piece of poetry. Thank you.
Thank you for your wonderful comment. I began this poem with the idea of describing the moment between sleep and waking just as you mentioned. Of course, I couldn’t help but add in a little twist that allowed for dual interpretations. The key to the other one lies in the line: “Reminds me of life.” Very subtle, but allows for two possibilities…. I believe each is as valid as the other. Thank you again for your delightful comment.
