Many millennia ago,
We first heard of the Kingdom of Heaven.
But still, we are left asking,
What is this kingdom?
Is it the eternal resting place?
Will it be God’s Kingdom on Earth?
We are no closer now,
Than then, to understanding.
In the future, perhaps, we will grasp
That it is not a resting place, or future kingdom.
Instead, it is something
That resides within us all.
The inner strength that leads a man to stand up
Against the ruling elite and their underlings,
For what is right for the people.
Even in the face of certain death.
Without this strength,
We could never press for change.
Instead, we would be at the mercy of tyrants,
And their quest to own everything and everyone.

“We are no closer now,
Than then, to understanding”
That is the heart of it for me.
Those lines do hold a lot of truth.
Very nice poem regarding an eternal question. I have to say, I couldn’t agree more that the Kingdom resides inside each and every one of us and not some mysterious place in the sky. Keep up the excellent writing. 🙂
Thank you Dom. It is always good to know that people out there like my work. I’m always afraid that people will hate my poems.
This is a beautiful piece Cody – In reply to your reply by Dom – do not be afraid that people ‘will not like’ your writing – you are a beautiful writer and the above poem is just one tiny example of so many more you have created and have yet to create!
Thank you Kimberly for your thoughtful comment. You helped lift my spirits.
